I took this photo on Mother's Day while I was out walking with my family. It was overcast and rainy but the sun was trying to come out. The camera was on the automatic "no flash" setting.

This week's photos are once again of my cat, Pumpkin. He's been a very good subject lately. We actually have two cats but the other one is still freaked out by our recent move and she won't come out of the closet. I also played with Yanconyongs Old Photo Converter. These pictures were all taken with natural light on 2-2-09. We have strong shadows today, and it is Groundhog Day, so it looks like Winter will stick around a bit longer.

Pumpkin

Our old male cat, Pumpkin. He's a redhead with freckles. He is sitting in front of my computer screen, looking out the window at the sleet coming down outside. The flowers behind him are another one of my photos. The camera was set on the automatic "no flash" setting.

This week's photo Quest is Quest #39 - Winter Light.

I haven't participated much in the photo quests since we bought our new house last summer. But yesterday was our wedding anniversary and we went out for a nice drive in the country and the perfect opportunity presented itself.

We were driving on a seldom used Oklahoma highway near Red Rock Canyon when we came upon this old filling station. These photos were taken on 12-6-08 at approximately 3:00 in the afternoon.

Even at this time of day, the shadows were long and the light was golden. If you double click on the pictures you can zoom in on them. Notice that people have written their names and dates in the grime on the windows over the years.

I have been pre-occupied this week. We are buying a house and that seems to take a lot of brain power. I did learn some new things about my camera, thanks to this quest. I did not know it had a black and white setting. It also has a sepia setting. These pictures are just quick shots from my yard and one from my neighbors flower pot.

Sockit's Nosey Nose

This is my cat Sockit. She follows me around while I take pictures but I have very few of her because it is hard to take her picture while she is wrapped around my leg! I shot this one in "raw" format. Check out the close-up version and see all the detail that was captured in the raw format. I'm very excited about this feature. I can see future uses for it and plan to explore it farther.

This week's quest was to take a lot of macro photos and submit the best three. These are fun shots to take because you don't have to go anywhere exciting to find interesting subject matter, Just look around and you will see plenty of things to zoom in on.

I kept my camera settings simple. I used the automatic "flower" setting and I used my stock lens (the one that came with the camera) it is an 18-55mm canon zoom lens and I have an 8mp Canon digital camera. I extended the lens as far out as it would go and took all three of these photos at the closest focal length that my camera would focus.

This shot was taken at about 5:00 p.m. and the sun was behind my back. My hair (I have lots of hair) was acting as a natural filter for the harsh light.

Inside a Red Tulip

This is the inside of a red tulip. The sunlight was shining through the red petals and gave the white pistil an interesting filtered color.

Sycamore Seed Stuck in the Screen

This is a Sycamore seed. The fluffy balls that hang in the trees are exploding this time of year and the seeds pile up on my porch like drifts of snow. I also used the rule of thirds for this picture.
